2006 OUTSTANDING CONSERVATIONIST NAMED

Tom and Linda Jones, of rural Delavan, were selected as 2006 "Outstanding Conservationist" for Faribault County.  They were honored at the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Annual Convention on December 5 in Bloomington.  Each year, the state's SWCD's recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding accomplishments with implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota's natural resources.

A project Tom, and adjoining landowners, initiated in 2001 was completed this past summer restoring a series of farmed drained wetland basins along the upper reaches of Judicial Ditch 9 Five perpetual conservation easements were secured through the state's CREP program to facilitate the restoration. The project restored a large wetland complex containing approximately 120 acres of wetland within 173.6 acres of permanent easement area.  In addition to being very beneficial from an environmental standpoint, the project will also help to control flooding and benefit all parties involved. Tom has also established a farmstead windbreak, several field windbreaks, and utilizes conservation tillage on his cropland.  A special 'thank you' goes out to the Jones' for their dedication and committment to improving the environment for future generations!
