2005 OUTSTANDING CONSERVATIONIST NAMED
Larry and Kathy Wigern of rural Kiester were selected as 2005 "Outstanding Conservationist" for Faribault County. They were recognized at the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Annual Convention on December 6 in Bloomington. Each year, the state's SWCD's recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding accomplishments with implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota's natural resources.
For the past 24 years, the Wigerns have been actively farming alongside Larry's father. Over the years, they have restored an existing windbreak, practiced minimum tillage, installed filter strips, and enrolled 23.5 acres into the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, which has been established with a variety of native grasses. Aside from farming, Larry also owns and operates an excavation business. Over the past years, Larry has been aggressively working to assist Faribault County in achieving it's 12 year goal for the upgrade of failing onsite septic systems throughout the county. He has also been committed in ensuring the longevity of these systems by assisting with the maintenance of many of these systems. A special 'thank you' goes out to the Wigerns for their dedication and committment to improving the environment for future generations of Faribault County.
