U.S. Fish & Wildlife Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) are public lands purchased by the Federal government for the purpose of increasing the production of migratory birds, especially waterfowl. Most WPAs are open to such public uses as hiking, bird watching, hunting, and recreational trapping.
Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) are part of Minnesota's outdoor recreation system and are established to protect those lands and waters that have a high potential for wildlife production, public hunting, trapping, fishing, and other compatible recreational uses.

Aquatic Management Area (AMA) PDF - the 375 acre Blue Earth River Aquatic Management Area near Winnebago is open to the public for recreational uses such as fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, hiking, and hunting.
